    M4 highway rehabilitation work gets under way

    eThekwini mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says rehabilitation work has started on the M4 Inkosi Albert Luthuli highway southbound carriageway. The cost of rehabilitating the freeway, between Anton Lembede street (Smith Street) and Pascoe/Reunion road, will be just over R121-million and it is expected to take ten months to complete.     SIU working to combat fraudulent vehicle licence renewals using deceased persons’ identities

    The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has found that the identity numbers of deceased persons are being used to fraudulently facilitate the renewal of vehicle licences for truck owners whose accounts with the licensing department have been suspended. SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago on June 9 said the SIU had uncovered this scheme during an analysis of the National Administration Traffic Information System (NaTIS). He explained that truck owners whose accounts with the licensing department have been suspended owing to the nonpayment of traffic fines, were colluding with employees of the licensing department to move the unpaid fines to the identities of deceased persons.

    KZN government aims to maintain good quality infrastructure

    The KwaZulu-Natal government is committed to maintaining infrastructure and ensuring that people living in rural areas and suburbs receive the same standard of service delivery. Premier Sihle Zikalala made the announcement in uMbhumbhulu, on June 6, as part of the launch of a R187-million investment that is aimed at upgrading and rehabilitating strategic roads connecting economic areas in the eThekwini metropolitan municipality. Over 340 job opportunities will be created during the road construction and local companies will be prioritised to participate in the construction of the roads.
