    Former PRASA engineering head who falsified qualifications convicted for fraud

    The former head of engineering services at the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa, Daniel Mthimkhulu, has been convicted of three counts of fraud by the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Palm Ridge, the Gauteng local division of the National Prosecuting Authority said on Monday. Mthimkhulu, who played a central role in the “too tall” trains tender scandal, made headlines when he exited the rail agency in 2015, following reports that he had misrepresented his qualifications in order to get his position as head of engineering services.

    TFR security arrest three suspects for stealing UPS batteries

    Rail operator Transnet Freight Rail’s (TFR’s) security have arrested three suspects who were found with uninterrupted power supply (UPS) batteries that are used by the rail operator during power failures. TFR says that, on January 27, at about 20:00, while the TFR security was doing patrol at the Saaiwater Depot, near Ogies, in Mpumalanga, they came across a suspect private vehicle in the area and approached it for a stop and search.

    Sanral rolls out R90m upgrade project in the Free State

    The South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) says it will invest more than R90-million on a road infrastructure project in the Xhariep district municipality, in the Free State. The investment will include the upgrading of existing unsurfaced roads to surfaced roads from Springfontein to Trompsburg, says Sanral Eastern Region transformation officer James Takalo.
