    SAA, Kenya Airways have long-term plan for pan-African airline group

    South African Airways (SAA) and Kenya Airways (KQ) have signed a cooperation agreement with a long-term view to create a pan-African airline group, the two companies said on Tuesday. “It is not a merger but a partnership that seeks to re-organise KQ and SAA assets into an ecosystem that will make the South African and Kenyan aviation sector more competitive,” Kenya Airways said in a statement.

    Competition Tribunal approves Imperial’s acquisition of J&J, Greendoor groups 

    The Competition Tribunal has unconditionally approved a deal whereby Imperial Logistics, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Imperial Capital, will acquire Lift Logistics (J&J Group) and its subsidiary, Greendoor Group. Post-acquisition, Imperial will control J&J Group and Greendoor.   The Tribunal has concluded that the merger is unlikely to substantially prevent or lessen competition in any relevant market. Furthermore, it raises no public interest concerns.   Imperial is not controlled by any single firm or individual as its shares are widely held, says the Tribunal.

    Cape Town container, multipurpose terminals introduce truck booking system 

    Introducing a mandatory truck booking system at South Africa’s port terminal operations has yielded benefits that the Cape Town Container Terminal (CTCT) and Cape Town Multipurpose Terminal (CTMPT) will soon enjoy, Transnet Port Terminals says in a statement. “There are many challenges introduced when trucks all call the terminal at the same time unannounced, hence our roll out of the mandatory truck booking system, which we are pleading with industry to fully exploit,” says Cape Terminals managing executive Wandisa Vazi.

    Southern African airlines body appoints its new CEO

    The Airlines Association of Southern Africa (AASA) announced on Monday that it had appointed a new CEO. He is industry veteran Aaron Munetsi and he replaces Wrenelle Stander, who is moving to Western Cape provincial tourism and economic development agency Westgro. Munetsi takes over with immediate effect. “I am looking forward to leading AASA and building on the solid base that has been prepared by my predecessors and the team,” he affirmed. “I intend to apply my broad industry experience to finding common ground with policy makers, legislators, regulators and our industry partners in developing solutions to key issues facing airlines throughout the Southern African Development Community.”
