    Concern over opposition to Aarto

    The Chairperson of Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Transport on Tuesday expressed concern over continued opposition to the Administrative and Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (Aarto) Act, saying such opposition was “misinformed”. Committee chair Mosebenzi Zwane said in a statement he had noted objections and concerns by various interest groups, subsequent to the signing of the Aarto Act.

An expanded bailout for struggling power utility Eskom Holdings and calls from other State companies for support have strained the nation’s budget, prompting business groups and analysts to warn the country could be pressed to ask the IMF to help keep a lid on ballooning debt.

    Latin American airline group Latam Airlines on Friday hosted a media tour of the latest addition to its fleet – an Airbus A350 XWB – which operates on its route between Sao Paulo, in Brazil, and Johannesburg. The plane, with the capacity to transport 30 business and 309 economy class passengers, started operating on the route on August 1.
